SOUTH AFRICA: Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Certification for Easigas

It has once again achieved a BBBEE level 1 ranking, the highest possible level of ranking, for the third year running.

August 2021

Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) is an integration program launched by the South African government in 2003 to reconcile South Africans and address apartheid inequalities by attempting to compensate them for lands that have been taken from Africans. It encourages companies to integrate the black community into the workplace and into business management and creation. Companies are awarded points they can claim on a BBBEE certificate that gives them a better chance of securing government contracts.

A set of codes of practice published in 2007 contains sections on ownership measurement, management control, employment equity, skills development, preferential purchasing, business and supplier development, and socio-economic development.

Easigas has formed a BBBEE committee composed of people who focus on each measurement section. Long-term strategies must be formulated and are assessed and monitored on a quarterly basis to ensure that overall BBBEE objectives are met. Initiatives within Easigas to support BBBEE legislation aim to achieve a real transformation in the workplace and support different companies, suppliers and organisations, resulting in an effective partnership between the parties, while contributing to the country’s economy.

In addition to the fact that Easigas is the first liquefied gas distribution company in South Africa to have achieved a BBBEE Tier 1 ranking, Easigas is proud to announce that for the third consecutive year, it has again achieved a BBBEE Tier 1 ranking, which is the highest possible ranking.
