MADAGASCAR: Rubis strengthens its presence

The Rubis Group acquired the Galana Group, the leading distributor of petroleum products in Madagascar.

July 2017

The Galana Group, active in key market segments such as fuels, liquefied gases and lubricants and with a network of 71 service stations, distributed 260,000 m3 of petroleum products in 2016 for a turnover of $215 million.

Thanks to dedicated maritime access, the Group has a strategic and autonomous logistics tool, consisting of the island’s only oil product import storage facility in Tamatave (260,000 m3).

With a 30% market share combined with a unique logistics position, Galana combines, through its leading position, all the strategic criteria sought by the Rubis Group. Through the acquisition of Galana, the latter significantly increases its presence in the distribution of petroleum products in the Indian Ocean.

The increased volumes in this growing region should ultimately generate economies of scale (trading and shipping) for the Rubis Group.
